August 20, 2022, will mark the 150th anniversary of the Burnt Coat Harbor Light! It will be a day of celebration, starting with Reveille and flag raising at 9:00 am, continuing with a lunch at the Oddfellows Hall, followed by music and storytelling. Starting at 4 pm, there will be a celebration at the keeper’s house, with a time capsule prepared by students from the Swan’s Island School, and birthday cake for all!
TRAVEL INFORMATION. If you are coming from the mainland, we would love to welcome you to the celebration. Swan’s Island has no public transportation available so plan to bring your car on the ferry so you can get around the island. The ferry schedule is available here or you can call 207-244-3254. More travel information here. It is about 3 miles from the ferry landing to the Oddfellows Hall and about 4 miles from the ferry landing to the Lighthouse. Swan’s Island is a residential island; overnight accommodations are limited and should be made well in advance of your arrival.
A special feature of the celebration will be the auctioning of 10 decorative glass lamps, made from glass blocks rescued from the lighthouse tower. The glass block windows were removed from the tower during the restoration, as a necessary step to improve ventilation. Local artists have transformed the bricks into a delightful keepsake.
