SUMMER IS COMING! Opening days and hours for the keeper’s house and tower will be posted soon, on this website and on the lighthouse Facebook page. We expect to open the third week of June. There will be new artwork in the art room, a Historical Society display, and an exhibit by students from the Swan’s Island school. We’ll have some new merchandise, too, with a “Made in Maine” theme.
The lighthouse tower will be open again this year, and the new, double hung windows in the light tower (replacing the old glass brick) allow for views out to sea as you climb the tower stairway. Of course, the very best views are from the lantern room in the top of the tower, but if you can’t wait for summer, you can check out the views by going to our website, www.burntcoatharborlight.com and clicking on the webcam link at the very top of the home page.
Another place to visit on the island: the Lobster and Marine Museum, which also plans to open in June. Swan’s Island Historical Society, in its new-old building (used to be the Methodist Church) will also have lots going on as artifacts are gathered and exhibits are planned.
We hope that Covid restrictions this summer will be much reduced. You can stay informed by checking the Town’s latest Covid notice on the Town website, www.swansisland.org, and Maine’s travel information for visitors: https://www.maine.gov/covid19/
